  • How can I book a group training?
    The most effective way is to send an email at marie@mhmcounselling.com.au and this way we can ensure to organise the training in accordance with your organisational needs.
  • How long is the training?
    The Standard Mental Health First Aid is a 12-hr training usually delivered during 2 days. The delivery can be customised to your team needs as well if it would be more convenient to deliver this 12-hr training spread on 3 or 4 days, we'll be happy to accommodate your needs.
  • Will I get an accreditation and how long is it valid for?
    Yes - After completing the course, you'll be eligible to take the short online assessment, and then after completing it successfully you'll obtain your Mental Health First Aider accreditation. This accreditation will be valid for 3 years.
  • Are you offering industry-specific context training?
    Of course! Our training can be customed and tailored to your needs and to your industry. We have access to a diversity of material created by Mental Health First Aid Australia and we will use the most relevant one to meet your requirements.
  • What can we expect in terms of content?
    The Standard Mental Health First Aid course will cover mental health problems topics including depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, substance use problems. It will teach the main signs and common symptoms. This course also covers how to provide mental health first aid in a crisis situation to develop the tools to have a discussion that could save a life when it comes to suicidal thoughts and behaviours. Other examples of crisis situation that will be discussed are: panic attacks, what to do following a traumatic event, intervening during a sever psychotic states, helping when there is a severe effects caused by substance use (alcohol and drugs), and how to de-escalate aggressive behaviours.
  • Are you offering other MHFA training?
    At the moment, we're only delivering the Standard Mental Health First Aid training in person. We may offer more training in the future.
  • Can you tell me more about the organisation MHFA?
    Betty Kitchener and Professor Tony Jorm created the Mental Health First Aid Program in Australia in 2000. The goal was to create a program to use the concept of providing first aid when it comes to mental health. Mental Health First Aid Australia is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to deliver Mental Health First Aid courses internationally. The courses developed by Mental Health First Aid are evidence-based whenever possible otherwise they are based on a large number of studies. More than 5 Million people have been trained internationally in over 25 countries. Over than 1 Million Australians are Mental Health First Aiders and there are over 4 500 Mental Health First Aid Courses delivered in Australia each year. For more info: https://mhfa.com.au/
