Originally from Montreal, Canada, Marie made the move to Perth, Australia in 2010. She takes great pride in being a mother to a wonderful little boy. Prior to embarking on her career in mental health, Marie led a busy professional life in the corporate world, including owning and operating a small business. These diverse roles have provided her with a wealth of life experiences and insights. Throughout her personal journey, she has encountered various life events and challenges, which have deepened her understanding of mental health. Realising her true calling in life was to assist others during challenging periods, Marie decided to pursue a career in mental health.

As a passionate mental health advocate and professional, she aims to increase awareness and knowledge about mental health and the mental illnesses that many people face today. This drive led her to become an advocate for Mental Health First Aid Australia, an organisation in which she wholeheartedly believes.To further her mission, Marie has become a fully accredited and licensed Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Her goal is to make a meaningful impact by reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues and addictions. She envisions a future where every adult in Australia is Mental Health First Aid accredited, empowering them to confidently engage in life-saving conversations when needed.

Penny Jakovcevich
Penny is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and strives to make a positive impact in the world. Drawing from her personal experiences as a counsellor and a Lifeline telephone crisis support worker, she brings a unique perspective to her work. As a qualified ACA registered counsellor, Penny values compassion, non-judgment, and acceptance in her approach. In addition to her professional pursuits, Penny is the proud mother of two boys. Her journey to parenthood was not without challenges, which sparked her desire to support others navigating their own difficult times.
